Yesterday I chose Mungo Jerry's "In the Summertime" as my Power 96 Cool One. I thought it was appropriate for the day since it was suppose to top out in the lower 90s, like a good summer day should be, and a lot of people would probably hitting the beaches and pools.

"In the Summertime" is found on either their eponymous first album or their sophomore effort, Electronically Tested, depending on which printing you purchased. The single made it to No. 3 in the U.S. and No. 1 in the UK in 1970.

Fronted by Ray Dorset, the one constant in a constantly changing line-up, Mungo Jerry's name was inspired by a T.S. Eliot poem titled "Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer."

Please join me this afternoon at 4:35PM for the next Power 96 Cool One, brought to you by Kelly's Auto Parts.

Picking out a Cool One each day isn't easy, and I could use a hand. If you've got a favorite tune you’d like to hear and you’re a Power 96 VIP member, nominate it here:
