Neil Young and Pearl Jam teamed up to record Thursday's Power 96 Cool One. The tune I shined the spotlight on was "Downtown" from Young's June 1995 and 22nd studio release, Mirror Ball. The single made it to No. 6 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Tracks chart and No. 113 on the UK Singles Chart. The album on the other hand topped out at No. 5 on the U.S. Billboard 200 and No. 4 on the UK Albums Chart, one of Young's highest charting albums since 1972's Harvest, which peaked at No. 1 in both the U.S. and UK.

Pearl Jam was Neil Young's studio band while recording Mirror Ball and a lot of the tracks feature the patter in between takes of songs. I had to edit out the chatter at the beginning of "Downtown" because someone, I'm guessing it's Young, drops the f-bomb.

Check out the Power 96 Cool One, brought to you by Kelly's Auto Parts in Faribault, at 4:35PM today. This afternoon's Cool One features the southern rock sounds of a band whose roots can be found in the band American Bang.
