I hope you enjoyed yesterday's Mellow Monday Power 96 Cool One. Don't worry, I'm not going to feature a mellow tune every Monday; I was just in the mood for something a little more laid-back to start off the week. If you missed it, yesterday I featured R.E.M.'s "Leaving New York." I really enjoy a lot of R.E.M.'s music; some of their songs are silly, some rock and some are just beautiful, sad and full of passion like yesterday's track. The first time I heard it, I liked it.

"Leaving New York" comes from their 13th studio album, Around the Sun. Released in October 2004, this album failed to yield any hits in the United States. As a matter of fact, it's the band's first studio album to fail to have a song chart on the Hot 100 since 1985's, Fables of the Reconstruction. It's also notable that it's their only record to include the title track.

Today I feature another band you might not have heard of. I recently stumbled across them while checking out new music, and they remind me of a grittier version of the Black Crowes but they still have a sound that's very unique. Brought to you by Kelly Auto Parts, make sure you're listening at 4:35 p.m. to find out what today's Power 96 Cool One will be. Drop me a line and let me know what you think. I'm always looking for your input: mike.eiler@townsquaremedia.com
