I wrapped up the week's tribute to bassist and songwriter Jimmy Bain from legendary bands such as Dio and Rainbow. So I decided to finish with a track from Rainbow's live On Stage album, released in July 1977. Paired up with "Man on the Silver Mountain and "Mistreated" along with "Kill the King," this single failed to chart in the U.S. but it did chart at No. 44 on the UK Top 75 chart. All the songs on the album were supposedly recorded while on tour in Japan and Germany in support of their 1976 album, Rising. "Kill the King" made its first recorded appearance on this live album before they went into the studio and recorded it for their follow-up effort, Long Live Rock 'n' Roll in 1978.

Join me today for a belated nod to Paul Kantner, who passed away last Thursday at age 74. I'll track something from him and his band Jefferson Airplane on the next Power 96 Cool One, brought to you by Kelly's Auto Parts. Find what tune I choose at 4:35PM this afternoon on Power 96.
