The Power 96 Cool One I chose yesterday comes from Red Rider, a band many think are a one-hit wonder, although they've charted many songs here in the U.S. and their native Canada. "Lunatic Fringe" is the single they're remembered most for, but yesterday I chose "What Have You Got to Do (To Get Off Tonight)" from the same album, 1981's, As Far as Siam. This single failed to chart in the U.S. but did manage to reach No. 42 on the Canadian charts.

In 1978, Tom Cochrane, Rob Baker, Jeff Jones, Peter Boynton and Ken Greer got to together to form Red Rider and were signed to Capitol Records. They released their first album in 1979 called Don't Fight It. The singles "White Hot" and "Don't Fight It" charted here in the U.S. at 48 and 103 respectively. Their follow-up album was As Far as Siam, which yielded their first major U.S. hit, "Lunatic Fringe." By 1986 they changed their name to Tom Cochrane and Red Rider and released their self-titled fifth album. The band broke up after the release of 1989's The Symphony Sessions and Cochrane continued on with a solo career, scoring a hit with "Life is a Highway," later to be covered by country artists Rascal Flatts for the Cars soundtrack. Cochrane reunited with Greer and Jones in 2002 and reportedly are still touring as Tom Cochrane and Red Rider.

This afternoon's Power 96 Cool One, brought to you by Kelly's Auto Parts, comes from a band that started out with the moniker, TimeAtions. Make sure you're listening at 4:35 p.m. today to find out what they changed it to.
