Rush was the artist I chose for yesterday's Power 96 Cool One. I tracked a single from Caress of Steel, one of their earlier albums released in 1975. The single was "Lakeside Park," which like most of their earlier stuff failed to chart. The album itself charted at No. 168 on the U.S. Billboard 200 and No. 60 in their native Canada.

Written by drummer Neil Peart, "Lakeside Park" is an actual park that he spent time at during his youth. It's in Port Dalhousie, Ontario. The date "24th of May" mentioned in the song coincides with Victoria Day, the Canadian holiday commemorating Queen Victoria's birthday.

This is another song that brings back memories of summer for me. Except instead of the 24th of May, I think about the Fourth of July and the parties we would have at my childhood home, grilling out, my dad's great potato salad, firecrackers and bottle rockets, kickball and heading down to Alexander Park to watch the fireworks.

Today's Power 96 Cool One, brought to you by Kelly's Auto Parts, comes from a band that I've seen several times in concert and they always keep the volume at a comfortable level so I never leave with a ringing in my ears.
