Soul Asylum was yesterday's Power 96 Cool One artist, as I served up "Misery" from their seventh album, Let Your Dim Light Shine. Released in June 1995, this album was the follow-up to their successful 1992 release, Grave Dancers Union. Riding on that popularity, Let Your Dim Light Shine peaked at No. 6 on the U.S. Billboard 200 and at No. 22 on the UK Albums Chart.

Originally this Minneapolis band stared out as Loud Fast Rules, with Dave Pirner on drums but switching to rhythm guitar and lead vocalist. Original bassist Karl Mueller was diagnosed with throat cancer in May 2004 and succumbed to the disease in June 2005. Soul Asylum's latest effort, Change of Fortune, was released in March of this year.

This afternoon I wrap the week's worth of Cool Ones featuring an English gentleman with the distinction of being the only artist to be a three time-inductee to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Be listening at 4:35PM for today's Power 96 Cool One, brought to you by Kelly's Auto Parts in Faribault.
