Minneapolis' own Soul Asylum was yesterday's Power 96 Cool One. I pulled "Somebody to Shove" off their Grave Dancers Union as my featured track. It reached No. 1 on the U.S. Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart and No. 9 on the Mainstream Rock Tracks chart. The triple-platinum 1993 album spent seventy-six weeks on the charts on the strength of several well received singles including yesterday's Cool One, New World, Without a Trace, Black Gold and Runaway Train which reached No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 and won a Grammy award in 1994 for Best Rock Song.

Soul Asylum started out as Loud Fast Rules in 1981. After the popularity of Grave Dancers Union they were asked to play at Bill Clinton's presidential inauguration.

Join me today at 4:35PM for the next Power 96 Cool One, brought to you by Kelly's Auto Parts on 7th Street in Faribault. Today's Cool One features a Scottish rock band that got together back in 1968 and continue to record and tour to this day... and no, it's not the Bay City Rollers.
