Yesterday's Power 96 Cool One came from Sweet. This British glam-rock group formed in 1968 and scored their first hit, called "Funny Funny," in 1971, a bubblegum tune in the style of the Archies. Over the course of the next two years they transformed themselves into a more hard rocking band with hits like "Ballroom Blitz," "Fox on the Run" and yesterday's "Action."

Released as a single from Sweet's 1975 LP Give Us a Wink, "Action" made it to the Top 10 in various European countries as well as Canada in that same year, and to No. 20 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the U.S. and No. 15 in the U.K. The album itself did pretty good here in the U.S., coming in at No. 27.

If you've never heard Sweet's version of "Action" but it sounded familiar, it might be because various bands have covered it over the years including a German version by the Scorpions, along with "Fox on the Run" on the B-side, and Def Leppard's take on their Retro Active album.

Join me for today's Power 96 Cool One brought to you by Kelly's Auto Parts at 4:35PM, when I feature a Canadian rock band popular in the '80s, who are pretty much known as a one-hit wonder in the United States but charted well in their home country.
