Power 96 Cool One Recap: The Pretenders

On Tuesday I decided I wanted to use a track from The Pretenders as my Power 96 Cool One but I didn't want to trot out the same old hits you normally hear on classic rock stations. So I dug deep and came up with this nugget, released as a single in 1981, titled "Message of Love" found on Pretenders II. This album, which, like the single, hit the racks in stores in 1981, was put together quickly to capitalize on the success of their debut album, Pretenders. It did very well for them, hitting No. 10 on the U.S. Billboard 200 and No. 7 on the UK Albums Chart, and would be the last album recorded with the original line-up due to drug abuse taking the lives of both their guitarist and bassist. "Message of Love" peaked at No. 5 on the U.S. Billboard Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks chart and No. 11 on the UK Singles Chart.
