Friday's Power 96 Cool One comes from a British hard rock band called Thunder. The tune I chose was "Dirty Love" from their debut album Back Street Symphony. Written by their guitarist, Luke Morley, "Dirty Love" peaked at No. 55 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and No. 10 on the U.S. Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks chart and No.32 in the UK. The album, which came out in 1990, only managed to make it to No. 114 on the U.S. Billboard 200 but scored them a No. 21 on the charts in their homeland.

This is a band that had a hard time making it big in the U.S. because of the glut of hair metal bands in the late '80s and early '90s, although they managed to do well on the UK charts. They might even be a band you never even heard of despite having churned out nine studio albums, nearly that with live albums totaling seven and numerous compilation albums and singles. I suggest that if you like hair metal bands but are tired of listening to your old Poison, Warrant and Whitesnake albums, give these guys a spin for something that's old but sounds new.

Today's Power 96 Cool One, brought to you by Kelly's Auto Parts in Faribault, is from a guy that used to be a guitar instructor who helped shape other famous guitarists such as Steve Vai and Kirk Hammett. Make sure you're listening at 4:35PM to find out who it is.
