Yesterday's Power 96 Cool One was the title track from U2's fourth studio album, The Unforgettable Fire. The whole album was a radical departure from the type of music that their fans had come to appreciate, especially their previous record, War. Brian Eno and Daniel Lanois were brought in to produce The Unforgettable Fire, which was released on October 1, 1984. The album went to No. 12 on the U.S. Billboard 200 and No. 1 on the UK Albums Chart. The single by the same name failed to chart in the United States but peaked at No. 6 on the UK Singles Chart and No. 1 on the Irish Singles Chart.

I wasn't much of a U2 fan until this album came out and specifically until I saw them in concert in support of it. My brother-in-law needed a ride to the show and in exchange he would purchase a ticket for me. From the moment they took the stage it felt like a spiritual experience. The audience was in perfect sync with the band in both singing along and they way they swayed back forth in time with the music as if gripped by a religious fervor. I've been to a lot of concerts during my lifetime but this one has always stayed with me.

Don't miss the next Power 96 Cool One at 4:35PM this afternoon, brought to you by Kelly's Auto Parts in Faribault.
