After a hearing this morning Ramsey County Attorney John Choi said they are dropping criminal charges against the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis in a clergy abuse case.

In the Star Tribune, Choi said that in exchange for dropping the charges, some new requirements will be added to those from a civil cast that was settled last December. The archdiocese is now required to make twice a year reports. That procedure is to continue for three years.

Ramsey County Attorney John Choi had filed both civil and criminal charges against the archdiocese last year for failure to protect children, stemming from the case of former St. Paul priest Curtis Wehmeyer, now serving time in prison for abusing two sons of a parish employee in a trailer outside his church.

This case drew national attention. Archbishop Hebda said he will personally participate in restorative justice sessions.
