The 23rd annual Rice County Relay For Life is this Friday on the Rice County Fairgrounds in Faribault.

Honorary chairman for this year's event is Chad Balfe, and he will stop by the KDHL studios to inform us about his battle with cancer.

Balfe was diagnosed in July 2013 with Hodgkin's lymphoma and will have a message for those attending Friday during the luminary lighting ceremony.

Flag raising is at 6PM, followed by the survivors lap led by Balfe. Each survivor is given a chain of paper rings with a ring signifying a year of survivorship to wear and transport to the Keith Shaffer memorial survivor tree where they are placed on the tree. The final tally of years of survivorship always is impressive.

There will be a silent auction, food for sale, games for the kids and golf carts available for those with mobility issues. Some musical entertainment will be on the KDHL/Power 96 stage.

Last year just under $100,000 were raised and we are very close to breaking the $2 million mark raised since the first relay.

I'll be emceeing again this year and hope to see you Friday night on the Rice County Fairgrounds in Faribault.
