The River Bend Nature Center staff invites fat tire bike enthusiasts and would-be enthusiasts to come enjoy a day of fat tire biking on February 14from 1-5 p.m. The Fat Tire Bike Event will provide a chance to ride fat bikes on groomed, snow covered trails. The Nature Center will be selling afternoon bike passes for $5 ($3 for River Bend members) from now until the event.

All of River Bend’s ten miles of trails will be rolled and packed for fat tire bikers. Usually in winter, a smaller portion of the trails are groomed for cross-country skiers, and bikers are limited to just a few trails.

Fat tire bike tours will take place every 90 minutes during the event and will led by fat tire experts from sponsors Fit to be Tri’d of Northfield and Milltown Cycles of Faribault. Tours will include a brief history of the Nature Center grounds and scenic views while biking on some of the best trails at River Bend.

At 1:30 and 4 p.m., Christopher Tassava, a fat tire bike endurance racer, will give talks about his racing experience including his recent 200K race in eastern Idaho and Yellowstone. He will share his preparation, training, gear selection choices, and pictures from his races. Fat bike vendors will have booths in the Interpretive Center with a selection of their fat bike gear throughout the event.
