As I was posting an announcement for Scout Troop 306's Pancake breakfast this weekend, I was reminded of these words I said often as a boy scout and scout leader. "On my honor, I will do my best, to do my duty. To God and my country. To obey the scout law. To help other people at all times. To keep my self physically strong, mentally awake and morally straight.".

Scouting has taken it's lumps for various issues over the years for various reasons and because of a few bad people.  I still believe in scouting as a worthwhile activity to teach kids about the outdoors, conserving the environment, life skills and how to safely have fun.  Minnesota is home to many great scout camps like Many Point near Park Rapids. Where scouts come from everywhere for 1 or two weeks during the summer. When I was a leader I looked forward to a great week of vacation from work and being in the outdoors. My kids are grown up. I was fortunate to have two boys participate in scouting, and I hope if I have grandchildren, they will get involved. And someday when I retire I hope to get involved again. Give scouting a chance.
