The Minnesota Department of Resources named a Southeast Minnesota Conservation Officer its 2019 Officer of the Year.

Mitch Boyum patrols the Rushford area and has been with the DNR since 2000, according to the DNR. He also has worked extensively on enforcement issues related to CWD, assists in teaching new conservation officer candidates at Academies, and is dedicated to helping youth learn about the outdoors, and what fun they can be.

“Throughout his career, CO Boyum has proved himself to be an exceptional officer,” Enforcement Division Director Rodmen Smith said. “He understands the unique position conservation officers hold in their communities and is a positive reflection not just of the Enforcement Division, but the department as a whole.”

Smith presented the award to Boyum earlier this month at the annual awards ceremony and training conference at Camp Ripley.
