Rice County Sheriff: Icy Roads Kept Deputies Busy Monday

Rice County Sheriff Troy Dunn told KDHL his department was dispatched to 35 ice-related incidents Monday afternoon and evening. Dunn says that's a lot of calls between 3:30PM and midnight.

Thanks heavens there were not many injury crashes.

Just before 3:30PM, Rice County sheriff's deputies were joined by Faribault Fire/Rescue and North Ambulance at a call concerning a semi rollover.

Dunn said upon arrival first responders checked on the driver, who was transported to District One Hospital in Faribault with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver was identified as 37-year-old Charles Olson of Wahpeton, N.D. Dunn notes Olson was wearing his seat belt.

Olson was traveling west on 150th Street and was attempting to turn into a farm in the 1700 block of 150th Street West when the truck slid on the ice-covered roads. The trailer entered the ditch before the driveway and the combination rolled over the north ditch.

In a news release, Dunn said the semi-trailer was loaded with more than 100 hogs owned by Holden Farms of Northfield. Staff from Holden Farms removed the hogs from the trailer with minimal losses to cargo, according to the sheriff.
