The Kenyon-Wanamingo Knights had a 14-8 lead in the third quarter of Friday night's game in St. Clair but lost 24-14.

The go-ahead score for the Knights came with 4:23 to go in the third quarter when 6'0 155 pound junior Nate Bauer scored on a one yard run.

Kenyon-Wanamingo decided to kick an extra point and missed making their lead 14-8.

The Knights and Cyclones had a scoreless first quarter with Kenyon-Wanamingo held to 8 total yards while St. Clair tallied 112.

The Cyclones starting quarterback, 5'10 150 pound Dylan Schons was injured in the second offensive series on a clean Cole Johnson tackle in the open field that appeared to result in a left shoulder injury.

He did not return and 6'1 170 pound junior Derik Miller replaced him and scored the Cyclones first touchdown with 10:58 to go in the half on a one yard keeper.

5'10 160 pound senior Fullback Mason Stenzel ran in the two point conversion.

Kenyon-Wanamingo then opened things up offensively in the second quarter with 7 passes thrown and 5 completed for 65 yards.

5'9 140 pound sophomore quarterback Tate Erlandson's favorite target was clearly Cole Johnson.  The 5'10 160 pound senior had 5 receptions in the first half for 57 yards.

The longest pass play of the game was a 41 yard throw that had the look of a simple toss in the flat but Johnson caught the ball in stride perfectly and flew down the field for the big gainer.

He would also have a 38 yard reception in the second half that led to the go-ahead score.  That play came on a fourth down with one yard to go at the St. Clair 41 yard line.

The Knights first touchdown was also a one yard Bauer run and came with 1:33 to go in the half.  Erlandson connected on a fade to the corner of the end zone with Johnson for the two point conversion.

St. Clair's offensive line was big, 225, 230, 255, 215 and 215 and they took over the game along with the defensive front in the fourth quarter.

After Kenyon-Wanamingo's go-ahead score the Cyclones answered right back with a long drive that ended in a four yard run with :35 seconds to go in the third quarter.

The Knights were driving on their next offensive series after a terrific kickoff return by Bauer set them up on the Cyclones 43 yard line. St. Clair got an interception to stop that drive and took over on their 17 yard line.

St. Clair marched right down the field on a 16 play 83 yard drive with 5'10 180 pound junior running back Noah Schruin scoring his second 4 yard touchdown run of the second half.  He also ran in two two point conversions.

Schruin carried the ball 14 of the 16 plays on the drive and finished the night with 45 carries for 246 yards.  He had 9 carries in the first quarter for 70 yards, 11 carries for 48 yards in the second quarter, 5 carries for 30 yards in the third quarter and 20 carries for 98 yards in the final frame according to my unofficial Baker and Axelson CPA's of Wanamingo statistics.

Kenyon-Wanamingo finished with 169 yards in total offense to St. Clair's 368.

Erlandson was 2 of 9 passing in the second half for 36 yards and finished the game 7 of 17 for 101 yards.

The Knights close out their season Wednesday at home against Minnesota Valley Lutheran with senior night at the Moat.

St. Clair is at Faribault Bethlehem Academy Wednesday night.
