Last week saw the official announcement of some of the new 'Star Wars: Episode 7' characters' names. There was Kylo Ren, Finn, Rey, BB-8, and who could forget Poe Dameron. But, there's one more new 'Star Wars' character whose name has been revealed and if you thought "Kylo Ren" sounded silly, wait until you hear this: Captain Phasma.

Who, or what, Captain Phasma is remains unclear. The name was found by Disney fansite Stitch Kingdom, who noticed that right before last week's official reveal, Lucasfilm and Walt Disney Pictures filed several copyright applications for the new 'Star Wars' names. All the names registered were part of the announcement except one; Captain Phasma.

No such character pre-exists in the 'Star Wars' universe (unless you count this prescient fan fiction titled "Tarkin's Fist"), but speculation is that this may be Gwendoline Christie's character. Numerous sources have reported that Christie plays a chrome stormtrooper who acts as the commanding officer to John Boyega's Finn. She's one of the villainous characters, but obviously not the villain. She's the only character left who would have any time of military rank, so this could fit.

At first blush, Captain Phasma sounds pretty ridiculous, like the lead singer of a 70s psychedelic disco band. But, honestly, don't all 'Star Wars' names sound pretty dumb the first time you hear them?

While we did find out the identity of Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Oscar Isaac and Adam Driver's characters, there are still plenty of identities to be revealed between now and December 18, 2015, when 'Star Wars: Episode 7' opens in theaters.
