If you enjoy history, and have a desire to guide the future of an extensive collection of local artifacts, the Steele County Historical Society has a position for you.

After 13 years leading the society, executive director Laura Resler has left. She will continue to work part-time with the society until a new executive director is hired.

Under Resler's leadership, the society expanded from a part-time operation to a year-round historical center for Steele County and the region. The Steele County Historical Society has a membership of more than 1,000. The executive director manages staff and operations, as well as serves as public relations spokesperson and performs mission and vision-related duties, according to a press release.

"Our hope is to secure someone that can help the Society get to the next level. We have come so far as an organization and truly feel that there is much more that the Society can offer the community of Steele County," board member Michael Jensen said in a press release.

Society vice president Brad Vettrus said in the release, "this person must have the ability to supervise and coordinate staff and volunteers as they are the lifeblood of our organization." The Historical Society's campus encompasses 19 buildings that make up the Village of Yesteryear as well as the new 16,000-square-foot History Center.

The society has posted the position on their website, www.steelehistorymuseum.org; it will remain open until July 3. The board hopes to identify a new director in July.
