We've only kept up with Ron Moore's Syfy return thriller 'Helix' so much since its premiere, but with the first season finale upon us, the cable network has decided it won't be the last. The viral thriller has officially been renewed for a second season to air in winter 2015, but will anything be different about 'Helix' season 2?

For those unfamiliar with the series written by Cameron Porsandeh, Syfy’s ‘Helix’ follows a team of scientists investigating a possible disease outbreak at an Arctic research facility who find themselves trying to protect the world from annihilation. The series stars ‘The Killing‘ vet Billy Campbell as emotionally troubled CDC pathologist Dr. Alan Farragut, Hiroyuki Sanada (‘The Wolverine,’ ‘LOST‘) as the mastermind in charge of the top-secret arctic research, along with Kyra Zagorsky as Walker, Farragut’s estranged wife.

Says Syfy EVP Bill McGoldrick of the renewal:

'Helix' has built one of our most loyal and consistent audiences in its first season on Syfy. The incredibly talented writing and producing team have crafted a thriller that consistently delivered suspense, twists and high quality drama. We look forward to growing this passionate audience in what promises to be an even more memorable second season.

The series has advanced quite a bit in its 13 episodes from the original deadly virus premise, but what do you think? Did 'Helix' deserve its season 2 renewal? What would you want to see from the viral thriller when it returns for another 13 episodes in 2015?
