In 1915, cars were mainly for those who were rich. There were not the interstate highways that we know today. There were not the big electric carnival rides that there are now. Most of the games were games of skill. You had local marching bands providing the music. Big events were cake walks, pie eating contests, stock parades, wild animal acts. Base Ball (two words back then) was becoming a popular sport. And Aunt Bea was probably displaying her pickles or fried chicken in a competition.

Now we jump 100 years later and the 100th Cannon Valley Fair in Cannon Falls is here. There's musical entertainment from Lost Highway and Hitchville, carnival rides, a demolition derby and more. You can now get there quickly; you don't have to walk or take a train or horse and buggy. Although there is horse harness racing. It will be another grand event. You can check out all the details by going to cannonvalleyfair.org.
