Most of the coverage area is not in the wind chill advisory Thursday night. But we are still expecting temperatures in the teens below zero and wind chills near -20 to -25. If you are going to be traveling, be sure to be prepared in case of trouble.

Areas to the west of Rice County and to the north are in the advisory area.

If you have not already you should make a winter survival kit and keep it in your vehicle:

  • shovel
  • windshield scraper and small broom
  • flashlight with extra batteries
  • battery powered radio
  • water
  • snack foods including energy bars
  • raisins and mini candy bars
  • matches and small candles
  • extra hats, socks, mittens
  • first aid kit with pocket knife
  • extra medications
  • blankets or sleeping bag
  • tow chain or rope
  • road salt, sand or cat littler for traction
  • booster cables
  • flares or reflectors
  • fluorescent distress flag and whistle
  • cell phone adapter to plug into power socket

Be safe.
