Last Thursday, October 2nd, I was able to attend the Grand Opening of the campus expansion at the Faribault Campus of South Central College. In addition to expansion, the school was also celebrating 50 years in Faribault!

The festivities started at about 4pm with speeches from several people including the student senate president, Mayor John Jasinski, people who advocated for the project, and South Central College President Dr. Annette Parker, along with others. The official ribbon cutting took place just before 5pm. The place was crowded with people excited about the opportunities in Faribault! There were current students, staff and faculty, past SCC presidents, and faculty, along with alumni, and members from the community. The celebration included tours, refreshments, prizes, and a photo booth! There was so much excitement about not only the renovation, but the direction of the South Central as a whole, and also for the Faribault community! South Central College is a huge asset to this community, and we were honored to be part of that day!

I started my higher education at South Central College, and walking into the new expansion, it was like walking into a completely different place. This remodel gave the building an entirely new and fantastic look! I have many fond memories from my time at South Central, and it was great catching up with some of the familiar faces I spotted during the open house. I didn't get a chance to explore the entire building and see all of the changes, although I would have loved to, but everything looked fantastic. I did take a moment to check out the library before we left and was amazed at how beautiful it is! It addition to having amazing natural light, it has a huge stone fireplace! A fireplace! If you know me at all, you know I am always cold, so of course I thought that was fantastic! Can you imagine studying near that?

If you weren't able to make it to the Grand Opening, I suggest you take a drive over and check it out! I also snapped a few photos of the event, but you'll have to see the campus for yourself!
