Some of my earliest childhood memories involve the holidays. Christmas stands out the best in most of my memories, but I always looked forward to Easter as well. I loved our families tradition of gathering together to color Easter eggs for Easter. Of course, the best part was waking up and hunting for my candy-filled basket on Easter morning and the delicious meal we all would share that afternoon after attending church. Related to Easter festivities was the annual Easter egg hunt on the athletic field part of Central Park. Now there are a couple of apartment complexes built there, but when I was a kid it was where we held Phy. ed classes when the junior high was on Fourth Street.

This year you have a few options if you're looking for an Easter egg hunt for the kids or grandkids in the area.

This Saturday, April 8, in Faribault, there will an egg hunt and activities on the Rice County Fairgrounds and 4-H building for children ages 2 through fifth grade. The festivities start around 10:30AM and last until noon. That same day, Kenyon-Wanamingo High School is another place you can bring the kids for an afternoon of fun with the Easter bunny and an Easter egg hunt. This event starts at 12:30PM is is open to infants through third grade; bring your camera and a donation for the Kenyon Food Shelf.

On Saturday, April 15, the Koda Living Community in Owatonna will be hosting an egg hunt, kids activities and a chance to meet the Easter Bunny starting at 10AM. And the Christian Family Church in Owatonna will play host to their annual Community Egg Hunt starting at 10AM. Take pictures with the Easter Bunny, try your hand at carnival games, a scavenger hunt, pedal go-carts and more. The first hunt gets underway at 11AM. In Faribault, Shattuck-St. Mary's is the place to be for their annual Easter Egg Hunt open to kids ages 1-11 starting at 10:30AM. Refreshments will be served and donations to the Faribault Food Shelf would be appreciated. This event will be held indoors if there's inclement weather.

Take your pick or attend them all, but the main thing is the fun memories you're creating for your family.
