British hard rockers The Darkness was the band I featured on last Friday's Power 96 Cool One. I played the track "I Believe in a Thing Called Love" from their debut studio album Permission to Land. Released in 2003, it went to No. 36 on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart. "I Believe in a Thing Called Love" was the third single released from the album and it charted at No. 9 on the U.S. Billboard Alternative Songs chart and No. 2 in the UK. The band released five singles altogether from Permission to Land overseas and four here in the United States. Most of the tracks did well overseas, especially in the UK, but only the track "Growing on Me" was able to chart in the U.S., coming in at No. 31 on the Alternative chart.

This afternoon's Power 96 Cool One, brought to you by Kelly's Auto Parts in Faribault, features a glam rock band out of the '70s that got some limited airplay, but if you're like me, you probably heard about them from a friend. Listen at 4:35PM to find out who it is.
