Triton Captures a Set Off Kenyon-Wanamingo Volleyball Team

The Triton Cobras played their best match of the season against arguably one of their toughest opponents Tuesday night.

Triton won the first set 25-21 at home against Kenyon-Wanamingo with a packed gym and the Cobra band in attendance.

Then nearly halfway through the second set they had a five point lead before the Knights rode sophomore Ally Peterson to a 25-19 second set victory to even the match.

Kenyon-Wanamingo won the third set 25-15 and the fourth 25-19 ending each set on ace serves by senior Maddie McCauley and sophomore Riley Dummer.   Sophomore Madi Luebke had an ace serve to end the second set also.

Triton was led by sophomore outside hitter Nell Graham who according to my tally had 20 kills on the night.  Junior libero Isabel Robinson and sophomore setter Sydney Gilliland were pumped for the match for the Cobras also with numerous terrific passes and sets.  Particularly in the first couple sets.

Taking nothing away from Triton the Knights did not seem to have their normal energy in the first set and seemed a step slow most of the night.

Our Held Bus Service Knights of the night were Ally Peterson, Corynne Dahl, Maddie McCauley and Sydney Way.

Triton dropped to 2-14 and Kenyon-Wanamingo is now 16-7.

The Knights were in the "Also receiving votes" portion of the Class 2A Minnesota Volleyball Coaches  Association poll on Monday and will travel to Kasson-Mantorville Thursday to play a Komet team that is also in the "Also receiving votes" of Class 2A.

Triton hosts Goodhue Thursday.

In other volleyball action Tuesday night in the H-V-L Kasson-Mantorville swept Pine Island 25-18, 25-14 and 25-13.

Cannon Falls rolled over Goodhue 25-10, 25-13 and 25-16.

Stewartville beat Byron 25-12, 25-21 and 25-7.

Zumbrota-Mazeppa rolled past Lake City 25-19, 25-14 and 25-23.

The match of the night was probably Class 1A #4Hayfield at #8 Waterville-Elysian-Morristown.  The Vikings won in four sets,

The Buccaneers won the first set 25-21 before Hayfield won the next three sets by scores of 25-23, 25-20 and 25-13.

In a Big Nine volleyball match with Section seed iimplications Rochester Century had a happy bus ride home after defeating the Faribault Falcons in four sets in Nomeland Gym Tuesday night.

Going into the match Century appeared to be on the heels of Faribault for the #4 seed and a bye in the first round of the Section 1 Class 3A playoffs.

Faribault won the first set 25-20 before the Panthers clawed out 25-20, 25-18, 25-23 wins.  Rochester Century has just one loss in the conference and Faribault now has two losses in the Big Nine.

Northfield remained unbeaten in the league with a sweep of Mankato East in Northfield 25-13, 25-9 and 25-8.

Rochester John Marshall swept Winona, Mankato West won in three sets over Albert Lea and Rochester Mayo swept Red Wing.

In addition, Owatonna took four sets to down Austin.

In the South Suburban Conference Lakeville North and Lakeville South won in three sets over their opponents.  North defeating Farmington and South  over Burnsville.

Top Class 3A ranked Eagan swept Apple Valley and Rosemount won a five set thriller over Eastview in Apple Valley.
