The irony of attempting to rank UFO’s studio discography from worst to best isn’t lost on us.

After all, these English hard rockers -- much like Kiss, Cheap Trick and Thin Lizzy, among others -- are one of those bands whose generally acknowledged magnum opus – 1979’s seminal Strangers in the Night, in this case – is, in fact, a live album. But that doesn’t diminish the enduring fascination with (and endless debates and disagreements about) UFO’s eventful career over the past half-century -- primarily in respect to the astonishing number of talented guitarists who have passed through their ranks.

It doesn't put a dent into the considerable hard rock canon represented by UFO’s 21 studio albums over that span, either, as they quickly ditched their space-rock beginnings to help define British hard rock for much of the '70s, parts of the ‘80s and then carry on the flame into the ‘90s, ‘00s and ‘10s.

So whether you endorse Michael Schenker, Vinnie Moore, Paul Chapman or even Mick Bolton, Laurence Archer, and ‘Atomik’ Tommy McClendon, we know everyone can agree on Phil Mogg, Pete Way, Paul Raymond and Andy Parker – as well as many other short-term UFO alums. Strap yourself in and prepare for blast off, as we look at UFO Albums Ranked Worst to Best.
