It was something Kansas fans thought that they'd never see again: a new album by the band. But the arrival of singer Ronnie Platt -- who came on board following the departure of longtime vocalist Steve Walsh in 2014 along with some other key additions -- brought fresh energy to the lineup. They released The Prelude Implicit, their first album of new material in 16 years in September.

Shortly after the album’s arrival, Kansas hit the road for a tour that featured an expansive night of music, including the classic Leftoverture album in its entirety in celebration of its 40th anniversary last year. But they also played a sampling of material from the new album, with six tracks from the record finding themselves in the set list each night.

If you haven’t gotten a chance to catch a show on this current run, you can get a small taste with the group’s newest single and video, “Rhythm in the Spirit.” You can watch our exclusive premiere below.

"It's been a long time since we've made a one-song concert video, and we had a great time doing it,” the band said in a statement. “‘Rhythm in the Spirit’ was our unanimous first choice and we are very happy with how it turned out."

In a 2016 interview, drummer Phil Ehart called The Prelude Implicit a new musical beginning for the group -- one that came with a lot of challenges and unknown.

“It had to sound like Kansas, but be new Kansas and that was a major order,” he explained. “When we started this album, we were kind of like, ‘That’s going to be a tall order to fill.’ But we worked very hard and we think we’ve achieved that. The biggest compliment you could give us is that this sounds like Kansas. That’s what we were aiming for. We didn’t want to end up with people going, ‘Well, yeah, it sounds good, but we have no idea who this is.’ It does sound like Kansas."

Thanks to high demand, the band will continue to perform Leftoverture in its entirety at special shows this year and will also play festivals overseas this summer, including the annual Sweden Rock Festival and Night of the Progs. Fans can find latest tour information on the band’s official website.
