Watching Some Easter Classics

After enjoying a wonderful Easter dinner, we scanned the channels for something to watch. We finally settled on the 1972 Jesus Christ Superstar, Andrew Lloyd Webber's classic production starring Ted Neely as Jesus. Because he was so wonderful in the role, there have been many reincarnations of the show and Neely has figured he has played Jesus in the show more than 1,700 times. The other notable performances came from Carl Anderson as Judas and Yvonne Elliman as Mary Magdalene.

We also caught a repeat of the History Channel's The Bible. Diogo Morgado, a Portugese actor, does a great job as Jesus. And they got the story told in an interesting but condensed manner.

And last but not least was Cecil B. DeMille's version of The Ten Commandments, starring a cast of Hollywood great ones, many of them long since gone. With the commercials, it takes about five or six hours to show the movie on TV. But I have watched it on Easter many times since I was a kid. No computer animation. Just pure Hollywood magic and detail and not something that could probably ever be repeated in this pure form, because the cost to make this movie would be astronomical today. And even with its long length on TV, it still gets high ratings.

That's how I spent my weekend. It was hard to get back at it today. I am sure it was for many people.
