Kenyon-Wanamingo jumped out to a 15-3 lead in the Castle on Friday night but missed a number of free throws and had too many turnovers in a 54-38 loss to the Zumbrota-Mazeppa Cougars.

The score at halftime was Zumbrota-Mazeppa 27 and Kenyon-Wanamingo 19.

It appeared to me when the Cougars went from their zone to a man defense that's when the turnover spigot was turned on, resulting in nine points scored off turnovers in the first half and 19 points off turnovers for the game.

The Knights whittled the eight-point halftime deficit down to a point early in the second half and even with 5:15 to go it was a 12-point Cougar lead

Zumbrota-Mazeppa was 10 of 14 from the free throw line in the first half and ended the game 17 of 26 while Kenyon-Wanamingo was 1 of 5 in the first half and 6 of 14 in the game.

The Cougars had two players in double figures: Isaiah Nolte had 13 points and Robvon Jackson 11 points and 11 rebounds. Senior Alex Guse collected seven points and 12 rebounds.

Zumbrota-Mazeppa finished the game with 12 turnovers.

The only player in double figures for Kenyon-Wanamingo was Gavin Roosen with 16 points, but he had to leave the game early because of two technical fouls.

The Knights are now 0-12 in the Hiawatha Valley League and 1-19 overall. The Cougars are 7-7 in the conference and 14-7 overall.

Our Held Bus Service Knight of the night was 5-foot-10 junior Jack Buelke with nine points.

At halftime some little dolls performed with the Kenyon-Wanamingo Cheerleaders and I took a couple pictures I thought I'd share with you.
