15 Most Popular Vehicles for Catalytic Converter Thefts in Minnesota
I feel like we haven't talked about catalytic converters in a while. I haven't heard of any major catalytic converter thefts happening recently but there's still, of course, a chance that it could happen to you. There's a way to help prevent the theft of yours and also the state of Minnesota released a list of the vehicles most targeted by catalytic converter thieves.
Ever since hearing about the massive increase in thefts last year, I became paranoid that mine would get stolen too. However, there is a way to help prevent that possibility. The state of Minnesota has set up a program where you can get a special number imprinted on your catalytic converter.
How it works is a label with a unique number is put onto your cool to the touch catalytic converter. Then when it heats up again the number will be etched into the metal. That way if your catalytic converter is stolen law enforcement can track it down. Also, it's required that whoever is installing the label does it at no cost to you. However, they may require you to have another service done (like an oil change) in order to put on the label. I think the next time I get an oil change I may need to get this done!
The state of Minnesota also revealed the top 15 vehicles targeted for catalytic converters. If you own one of these vehicles it's strongly recommended that you get a label for your converter.
