A Birthday Shot I Wouldn’t Recommend
Trends continue to shock me, but this one is just downright disgusting. I almost vomited myself just watching the video. The shot goes by several names including Gorilla Fart, Sweaty Biker, and Mat Damon to name a few, but it's simply a bar mat shot. That's right, in case you haven't figured it out, this shot is the complete contents of the bar mat poured out into a shot glass. Bartenders often offer this shot to a cheapskate looking for a free drink, an unruly birthday girl, or to punish a patron who refused to stop hitting on them.
Supercall.com says, "It usually tasted like overly sweet Long Islands with a hint of dirty rag. There were usually fruit flies in there, too, but the alcohol kills and sterilizes them so who cares." They also state that this description is inaccurate in one major way, "Alcohol definitely does not sterilize the shot." Bartenders know that this is just plain unsanitary. The bar mat can go unwashed for days and the overspill sits in it, getting warm and collecting bacteria, fungi, and viruses. According to the New York Department of Health, the bar mat shot would be considered "an imminent health hazard."
Although the allure of a dare is sometimes unavoidable, especially to an impaired bachelorette, I'd suggest sticking to a Grasshopper, Scooby Snack, JagBomb, or a Melonball. As the Mat Damon is typically free of charge, shots definitely fall into the category of you get what you pay for. For the bargain price of $4-$6, a bacteria-free shot can be yours! As for a hangover, though, that will be up to you!
