Almost two decades after making the first Jay and Silent Bob solo flick, Kevin Smith is returning to the View Askewniverse with Jay and Silent Bob Reboot, which he announced was happening about six months ago. Now, it looks like his Supergirl schedule is giving him the break he needs to start shooting his new movie, which officially begins production this fall.

For those of you who don’t incessantly follow everything Guillermo del Toro is working on at any given time, it should be exciting news that he’s been working on an adaptation of sci-fi adventure Fantastic Voyage for a while, and was planning on starting production on it once he was done with The Shape of Water. The bad news is: production has been delayed to possibly next fall, and we won’t get to see the final product until 2020.

Okay, well, we didn’t see this one coming. Warner Bros. and DC are bringing us an origin movie for none other than classic, ageless Batman villain the Joker.

Seth Rogen is getting back into the teen comedy business — sorry, tween comedy business this time — with Good Boys, a somehow R-rated movie about a bunch of 12-year-old lads juggling their own coming of age with a journey to replace a drone toy before their parents find out they broke it.

Either a classic late 20th century teen film dies a classic late 20th century teen film, or it lives long enough to see itself become a female-led reboot. The reason I’m making this labored metaphor is because that’s exactly what’s happening to License to Drive, a fun teen adventure flick from 1988 that’s about to be rebooted with a pair of female leads.

When you’re shooting a big-budget tentpole superhero movie, it’s going to be complicated. When you’re shooting a big-budget tentpole superhero movie, half of which is underwater, it’s going to be really complicated. James Wan’s Aquaman is currently shooting in Australia, and Wan himself says it’s not an easy shoot.

Ron Howard has been keeping us somewhat up to date on his process shooting the untitled Han Solo prequel spinoff. He posts new tweets almost daily showing off the most behind-the-scenes stuff he can get away with, and today was no different: Howard posted a video from the set showing a pile of junk that looks like pieces of a crashed vehicle. Maybe one of the ships that didn’t make the Kessel Run?

Star Wars: The Last Jedi’s opening in theaters is guaranteed to be one of the most exciting events of the year, and also guaranteed to be overcast by the untimely death of Carrie Fisher. All of her work on the film was completed before she passed away, which may even make watching her onscreen even more difficult. We’ve heard that The Last Jedi greatly expands her role in the franchise, and in a way it gives the actress an appropriate send-off.

The goal with any society is to get better at stuff, to learn from mistakes and evolve, gradually, over time, to become the best version of itself. But for all the woke baes and social justice awareness out there, it looks like movies still have a long way to go. A new study has found that white men still get the most dialogue in today’s cinema, and women and minorities are still often relegated to stereotypical, nonessential roles.
