Bethlehem Academy Volleyball Receives #4 Seed
The Section 1A Champion Faribault Bethlehem Academy Cardinals are the #4 seed in the MSHSL State Volleyball Tournament which begins Wednesday, November 10, 2021 in St. Paul.
The Cardinals will play Thursday, November 11, 2021 at 5:00 p.m. against the #5 seed Breckenridge Cowgirls.
Top seed Mayer Lutheran plays at the same time against South Ridge at the Xcel Energy Center.
On the other side of the Class A bracket #2 seed Minneota plays 7:00 p.m. Thursday against Badger/Greenbush-Middle River while Legacy Christian Academy is the #3 seed and plays Walker-Hackensack-Akeley.
Mayer Lutheran (29-2) has been rated #1 in Class A all season after defeating Minneota in the first match of the year at Hopkins in a five set thriller. They also won 2-1 over the Vikings in a tournament. The Crusaders are 78-7 in sets.
Mayer Lutheran losses came against top ranked Class 2A Southwest Christian 3-2 at Southwest Christian and to Class 4A Chaska at the Chaska Tournament 2-1.
South Ridge Panthers (21-6) are based in Culver, Mn in the St. Louis County Public School District. The Panthers are 65-25 in sets.
Bethlehem Academy (20-11) opened the season with losses to Stewartville (rated #1 at the time in Class AA), Eden Prairie (in the Class 4A State Tournament) on the road before falling to Mayer Lutheran in 3 sets at home.
The Cardinals were in some tough tournaments against bigger schools where they did compete. They went undefeated in the Gopher Conference and dropped only one set in the Section playoffs to Rushford Peterson.
Bethlehem Academy is 60-31 in sets.
Breckendridge (29-2) is probably scracthing their heads a bit for being the #5 seed and playing a team with double digit losses as the #4 seed but it really doesn't make a bit of difference if you are #4 or #5 because there is no home court advantage or anything.
The Cowgirls had to survive two five set wins in the Section 6A playoffs so they are definitely battle tested.
On the other side of the bracket Minneota (29-4) is 79-14 in sets. The Vikings did not drop a set in their Section playoff run to State.
Badger/Greenbush-Middle River (29-3) is 77-21 in sets. The Gators lost to the Vikings in the Class A Volleyball Showcase Tournament in Burnsville in late September. They had to survive a five set match against Kittson County Central to win Section 8A and advance to State.
Legacy Christian Academy (24-6) lost to Kenyon-Wanamingo in three sets early in the season. The Lions are 56-17 in sets and have victories over BA, Badger/Greenbush-Middle RIver during the Class A Volleyball Showcase where they also lost to Minneota.
Walker-Hackensack-Akeley (28-5) is 75-6 in sets which means the Wolves did not lose outside of tournaments this season. They went undefeated in Section 5 play and did lose to Bethlehem Academy at the Volleyball Showcast Tournament in Burnsville.
If BA wins they play 1:00 p.m. Friday at Xcel Energy Center against the Mayer Lutheran match winner. If the Cardinals lose their opener they play 1:00 p.m. Friday also at Xcel.
