The Paradise Center for the Arts in Historic downtown Faribault is proud to present the region's best-loved Big Band, Buddy Koopmans Orchestra on Saturday, April 28 at 7:30 pm in the Bahl Family Auditorium. This performance is part of the 2018 KGPCo Music Series at the Paradise.

The Buddy Koopmans Orchestra was founded by Roger Koopman of Faribault in 1948.  Roger was a high school student then, and he and his fellow student-musicians dreamed of being part of a big band.  16 players were part of the initial roster, and they played up to 5 gigs each year.  A few years ago, Northfield-based clarinetist Gary Anderson bought the band from Roger and has kept the Koopmans name going.

“I've had the opportunity to get to know Roger over the past few years through Rotary and the Paradise. He is so humble, but his music legacy is so important to this community," says Kristen Twitchell, Paradise Center for the Arts executive director.

Big Band music wouldn't be complete without swing dancers.  Back again this year is swing dance instructor Gideon Rider from Fred Astaire Dance Studio in Eagan. "Gideon and his dance partner helped make the night last year. They got everyone up and dancing and just having fun" says Twitchell. The instructors will give free lessons prior to show start time and then show off some of their swing dancing skills at the start of the show.

Buddy Koopmans Orchestra appeals to music lovers of all ages. The show is Saturday, April 28 at 7:30 pm at the Paradise Center for the Arts. For more information or to purchase tickets go to  www.paradisecenterforthearts.org, call 507-332-7372 or visit the Paradise box office at 321 Central Avenue North in downtown Faribault.
