Cannon Falls Bears Drops Two Games in Waterville Tournament

The Waterville Indians hosted the Wet Willy Amateur Baseball Tournament sponsored by Lakeview Resort this weekend.  Cannon Falls opened the tournament with a 2-0 loss to the hosts.  The Bears then fell to Union Hill 3-2 before defeating Baseball 365 by a 6-5 score.

Waterville came into the tournament with ten straight games scoring double digit wins and a 17-1 record.  The Indians only loss had been in their season opener at Northfield 9-3.  That 10 game stretch scoring double digit runs Waterville also had some impressive pitching with 9 runs allowed in those games and 5 in one of them.

Games were 7 innings in the tournament.  Bears starter Luke Winchell scattered 8 hits over 6 innings allowing just 2 runs with 0 walks, 4 strikeouts, 2 wild pitches and a hit batter in the Waterville game.  An excellent job against a red hot team playing at home.

Indians starter Dalton Grose also went the distance.  In 7 innings Grose allowed 3 hits, walked 3 batters, 8 strikeouts, 2 hit batters.

Each team had one error in the game.  Waterville second baseman and high school baseball Head Coach Sam Stier and first baseman Nate Lee had the RBI in the game.  shortstop Ben Boran and left fielder Tom Gannon each clubbed doubles for the Indians.

In the 3-2 Union Hill win the Bulldogs had 10 hits and the Bears were held to 3 hits again.  Union Hill had two errors, Cannon Falls 1.

Hunter Reinardy pitched well enough to get a victory going 6 innings with 9 hits allowed, 3 earned runs, 1 walk, 6 strikeouts, 1 hit batter, 1 wild pitch.  The Bears made the most of their three hits.  Carlton Lindow and Luke Winchell collected RBI, Braxton Lindow had the other Cannon Falls hit.

Luke Zweber earned the win for Union Hill while throwing the final two innings of the game.  Zweber allowed 1 hit with 1 strikeout.  Dan Meger started the game and over 5 innings gave up 2 hits, walked 3, 1 strikeout, 1 wild pitch.

The Bulldogs were led by a couple of Waterville-Elysian-Morristown graduates.  Conrad Masberg had 2 hits and 2 RBI, Derek Masberg also had a hit.  Adam Gesen tallied two hits for the winners.

The Bears found some offense in their 6-5 win over Baseball 365 with both teams clubbing 9 hits and each team with an error.  Quinton Lindow earned the victory on the hill going the distance with 4 earned runs, 2 strikeouts, 1 hit batter.

Carlton Lindow had 2 hits including a homer run and 3 RBI, Luke Winchell an RBI double, Zeke Williams an RBI hit and Rich Burr had a RBI single.

Baseball 365 has their home ballpark in Minneapolis.

Cannon Falls is now 7-13 and plays the Randolph Railcats in their annual 4th of July game at 2:00 p.m. in John Burch Park.
