The Cannon Falls Bombers scored on their second offensive play of the game and never looked back in a 40-28 win over Plainview-Elgin-Millville Thursday night.  The game was played on a blustery night in Elgin.

The #10 rated Bulldogs have a football program steeped in great tradition.

The Bombers have been a state powerhouse the last few years and this year is no exception.  Ranked #2 in Class 3A behind Annandale the Bombers have been very successful since Head Coach Dan Meyers chose to run the Power Triple T formation on offense.

It is the perfect offense for Minnesota late fall weather like last night.  The wind chill was at 11 degrees at kickoff.  Not great passing weather with the gusty winds.

Senior Riley Miller scored the first time he touched the ball when he looked like he was shot ouf of a cannon (yes I know that's their logo) and scored from 62 yards out.  He also went in for the two point conversion.  Fifty five seconds into the game the Bombers already had the lead.

On their next offensive series Cannon Falls scored again on a Miller run.  Senior Marcus Banks ran for the two point conversion.

The score at halftime was 16-0 Bombers.

On their first offensive series of the second half Plainview-Elgin-Millville put together a nice drive and scored on a 22 yard run by senor Leo Silha.  The two point pass was not successful.  It was 16-6.

The Bombers answered with a 9 yard keeper by senior quarterback Owen Edstrom.  Junior Carson Hammel ran in the two point conversion.

Early in the fourth quarter Banks scored on a 18 yard dash with  junior Colton Loeschke scoring a two point conversion run.

Siha would dart 57 yards for a Bulldogs score before Hammel ran in from 14 yards out for Cannon Falls.  Miller ran for the 2 point conversion for the final points of the game for the Bombers.

Plainview-Elgin-MIllville would get another 37 yard TD from Siha with 5:06 to go.  The two point pass from senior quarterback conner Schumacherto junior Connor McGuire was good.

The Bulldogs scored their final points when the clock struck zero on a 5 yard pass.  Final score 40-28 in favor of Cannon Falls.

The Bombers finished the game with 421 total yards all on the ground.  They only attempted two passes all night with no completions.

Marcus Banks ran 14 times for 100 yards and a touchdown.

Miller had 9 carries for 93 yards and two scores.

Edstrom finished the game with 57 yards on 8 attempts and a score.

PEM finished the game with 300 total yards.  208 on the ground and 92 through the air.

Banks led the defense with 9 total tackles.

The Bombers should receive a #1 seed and bye in the Section 4AAA Tournament but no official information has been released yet.

I spoke with Cannon Falls Athletic Director Reid Olson this morning.  That section has 6 teams in it and the top two seeds should receive byes avoiding a Tuesday game.  They would play next Saturday at John Burch Park and be home for the final the following week if they win.
