For the second consecutive year the Cannon Falls Bombers are in the State Tournament.  In convincing fashion the Bombers rolled by the Breck Mustangs 40-13 at their McKnight Stadium.  It was a total domination.

I recall saying during the broadcast to break a Mustang you must impose your will on it and that's exactly what Cannon Falls did.  Literally from the opening kickoff.  On the opening kickoff kicker Trenton Matthies hit a low bouncer that Breck speedster Derek Turner III could not handle.  Marcus Banks came flying down the field and fell on the ball and the Bombers were in business at the Breck 15 yard line.

A few plays later senior Matthies scored on a two yard run, the extra point kick was good by senior Sam Ludden at the 10:25 mark of the first quarter Cannon Falls had already seized the lead and kicked off to start the game.

Cannon Falls Head Coach Dan Meyers told me before the game the Mustangs loved to quick toss the ball to their star running back Turner to get him on the edge right away.  On Breck's first attempt at the quick toss the Bombers were right there to stuff the play.

After a three and out Cannon Falls got the ball on their 37 yard line.  A handoff to Matthies resulted in a 67 yard score and the Bombers were literally off to the races with 8:10 to go in the first quarter.

Cannon Falls scored two more times in the first quarter.  Senior quarterback Jack Dommeyer ran in from one yard out with the extra point attempt blocked with 2:29 to go.

The Bombers got the ball at the 33 of Breck after senior Jake Hall recovered a Turner fumble that was forced in textbook strip fashion.

Matthies recorded his third touchdown of the quarter on a 32 yard run.  The extra point was good with :40 to go in the first quartet it was 27-0.

The final Cannon Falls touchdown of the first half came with 2:21 to go when Dommeyer threw a pass to Marcus Banks for 14 yards. Ludden's extra point kick was good.

Breck senior quarterback 220 pound Alex Mckenna threw a 22 yard touchdown to junior receiver Beau Courneya with 17 seconds to go in the half to get the Mustangs on the board.

Halftime score Cannon Falls 34, Breck 7.

The Bombers got the ball to start the second half.  Their first possession was a three and out.  Matthies punt was blocked and the Mustangs set up at the Cannon falls 11 yard line.  On their 4th pass attempt Cam Dicke intercepted to end that threat.

Dicke would have another interception in the end zone later in the half.

The final touchdown for Cannon Falls was a 2 yard run by sophomore Riley Keenan.  The extra point was blocked.

The Mustangs scored with 6:20 to go in the game on a 55 yard pass which made the final statistics look not quite as lopsided as they were.

Cannon Falls rolled up 425 yards of total offense with 403 coming on the ground.  Breck was held to 25 yards rushing and a total of 173 yards.

The Bombers open state action Saturday, November 9 against Dassel-Cokato at Burnsville High School.  Kickoff is scheduled for Noon.
