The Cannon Falls Bombers and Dassel-Cokato Chargers gave those attending a Class 3A State Tournament game in Burnsville a back and forth edge of your seat experience.  Unfortunately for the Bombers, Dassel-Cokato scored a couple of second half touchdowns to defeat Cannon Falls 26-22.

Bombers Head Coach Dan Meyers said he was very proud of his team and their school record breaking season.  "Seniors Jack Dommeyer, Mason Duden, Brian Sindt Jr., Braxton Ulrich, Kade Holt, Sam Ludden, Nick Bultena, Ryan Linde, Jake Hall, Grant Mech and Trenton Matthies will be greatly missed.  They have shown great leadership and incredible effort and have set the bar high for younger athletes.  They became the first players from Cannon Falls to make the state tournament twice.  We would have loved to win this one and played at U.S. Bank Stadium next weekend, but this team has a lot to be proud of.  They finished 8-2 and broke many school records."

The team rushed for 3,824 yards, averaged 35.1 points per game and averaged 430 yards per game in total offense.  All school records.  Trenton Matthies averaged just under 10 yards per carry (1st all-time), with 1,348 yards on 141 carries and 17 touchdowns.  All those are among top 5 school records list.

Mason Duden had 199 career tackles (9th all time).  Jack Dommeyer finished his career with 7.5 sacks (3rd all time), average 23.7 yards per completion (1st all time).

Coach Meyers added, "More important than the records this team will be remembered for their enthusiasm and effort."

Dassel-Cokato scored first on a 8 yard run with 11:08 to go in first quarter.  Cannon Falls Marcus Bank had a 1 yard touchdown 5:14 mark of first quarter and Sam Ludden extra point was good to tie the game.  The Bombers then scored on another 1 yard run this time by Jack Dommeyer with 8:44 to go in the first half.  Grant Mech ran in the two point conversion to make it 15-7.

The Chargers responded with a 1 yard touchdown with 6:02 to go in the half. Their two point extra point attempt failed giving Cannon Falls a 15-13 halftime lead.

The Bombers scored again on a 1 yard run by Dommeyer with 8:42 to go in the third quarter.  Ludden extra point kick was good to make it 22-13.  That would end the Cannon Falls scoring.

Dassel-Cokato's quarterback scampered for 44 yards with 5:35 to go in the game.  The extra point was again no good.  The Chargers signal caller scored again on a 18 yard run with 2:48 to go.  The extra point this time was good meaning the Bombers would have to score a touchdown to win the game.

Matthies finished the game with 233 yards rushing on 31 carries.  Cannon Falls ran 64 times for 344 yards.  Dommeyer was 2 of 9 passing for 35 yards.

Duden finished the game with 14 total tackles including a sack.  Riley Miller had 10 tackles.  Jake Hall collected 2 sacks.  Ryan Linde had a sack for the Bombers.
