Caves of Faribault Take Home Bronze Award For Blue Cheese
The Caves of Faribault recently took home some more hardware. When all was settled at the 2020 sofi Awards for specialty foods, Caves of Faribault was a bronze medalist for their Felix Blue Cheese.
According to the sofi awards website, "The Specialty Food Association’s sofi Awards have been honoring the best in specialty food for 47 years. sofi Award honorees are selected through a blind tasting process and are true innovators in their categories.
The Caves of Faribault isn't new to winning awards for their products as the caves that they used are pretty much ideal for creating award-winning cheeses like blue cheese. According to their website, the caves "unique humidity and temperature conditions, our St. Peter's sandstone caves are ideal for affinage, the ancient art of maturing and aging cheeses."
Felix Blue Cheese was one of the 148 winners that were blind taste-tested and then selected by a panel of specialty food experts from nearly 2,000 entries across 39 product categories. The various products were judged on "taste, including flavor, appearance, texture and aroma, ingredient quality, and innovation."
The last time the Caves of Faribault won a sofi was in 2013 for their Jeffs' Select. It was awarded gold in the category of Outstanding Cheese or Dairy Product.
The caves are no longer open to the public, but you can take a virtual tour of the caves by watching the video below.
