Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A Rochester man who was convicted of being the leader of a major drug trafficking operation 20 years ago has pleaded guilty to another felony drug charge in Olmsted County Court.

64-year-old Anthony Osborne Sr. yesterday admitted to a third-degree drug charge for selling heroin to a confidential informant working with Rochester police investigators in November 2018. He is scheduled to be sentenced in June and the plea agreement he worked out with Olmsted County prosecutors calls for a stayed 57-month prison sentence with three years of supervised probation.

Just last month, Osborne was sentenced for a first-degree drug charge connected to a 2019 investigation into heroin sales in the Duluth area. In that case, he received a 126-month stayed prison sentence and was placed on probation for three years. The plea deal for the 2018 Rochester drug bust calls for his sentence to be served concurrently with his sentence for the drug conviction in Duluth.

Osborne previously was sentenced to more than 20 years in prison as a result of a three-year-long investigation by Rochester police that led to his conviction on more than two dozen charges stemming from his leadership of a drug trafficking ring that brought illegal drugs from Chicago to Rochester in the late 1990s. At the time, it was among the largest drug busts in the city's history.

Osborne filed appeals for post-conviction relief and his prison sentence was later reduced to about 14 1/2 years. One of his convictions involved the use of his children to traffic drugs. One of his sons, 38-year-old Ricky Osborne, is now accused of being one of the ringleaders of a multi-state drug trafficking operation that was dismantled as a result of an investigation led by Duluth police in 2020.
