St. Paul, MN (KROC-AM News) - The number of new COVID-19 cases reported today by the Minnesota Department of Health was the highest single-day total so far, but the positivity rate fell below the seven-day rolling average.

State Health officials say the 924 new infections reported today pushed Minnesota's cumulative total above 60,000. 17 of the new cases reported today were in Olmsted County.

The new cases were identified by the almost 17,900 COVID-19 tests that were completed on Friday, which works out to a positivity rate of just over 5.1-percent. As of yesterday, the seven-day rolling average was around 5.3-percent. The number of tests completed yesterday was the fourth-highest daily total reported by the health department since the start of the pandemic.

Eight additional coronavirus-related deaths were reported today, including one in Goodhue County. There are currently 309 people hospitalized due to COVID-19 and 154 of them are in intensive care. The total is 9 above Friday's report and the ICU bed usage is down by one.
