Fake Faribault Biz Facebook Page Asking ‘Customers’ For Personal Information

The nice people down at the Community Co-Op in Downtown Faribault wanted to let its members know that there is/was a fake or spoofed Community Co-Op account on social media, and it had been asking 'customers' for personal information in messages. Firstly, the co-op wouldn't ever message you and ask for that information, and secondly, most reputable businesses won't send you a message or random email asking for that information either.

The Community Co-Op in Faribault posted about the spoofed account late last night.

Dear friends, someone made a fake account using our name, photos, and more. We have been in touch with FB but they have not removed it.
Please do not give anyone your credit card or share your information with anyone on Facebook. We would never ask for that on social media. If you somehow got a message from them, please disregard it. Thank you.

The message states that the Co-Op has contacted Facebook/Meta about the spoofed account in order for the fake account to be taken down. As of this morning, it appeared through a search that the page may have already been removed, but sometimes when pages get spoofed, there could be more than one.

While it's unfortunate that a local company had this happen to it, it is also a great lesson for community members and for those online to review some easy online safety tips.
