The Faribault Falcons Boys Hockey Team was a big reason why preparation for the Thanksgiving Community Dinner was completed in record time this evening.  The Falcons were there in full force with most of them assisting with peeling potatoes.

Some had never had the experience before.  They were not the only athletes to assist either.  Some youth girls hockey players helped with artwork for placemats and I saw some of them also assist with pulling turkey meat for the sandwich lunches everyone receives after enjoying a sit down meal at the Faribault American Legion.

Faribault Falcons softball player Abby Lake also peeled potatoes at the American Legion this evening.

It was awesome to see the teens alongside a few elderly folks peeling potatoes and visiting about their team and Gopher football success.

I know organizers Laura McColley and Julie Fox are very appreciative of the Legion allowing them to utilize the facility not only for the meal but it's preparation as well.

Fox told me 442 requests for meal deliveries were made by noon today. She says this has become her favorite day of the year but don't expect her to eat any turkey.

After cooking turkeys for a couple of days she says it is not the top food on her list although she loves fresh cranberries.

I have to say I've always enjoyed cranberries but I don't think I've ever had anything but those out of a can.

I came across this in a Book of Quotes I have.  It is not attributed to anyone.  I hope you enjoy it as much as I have.  It is entitled Winner vs. Loser and with the sports theme at the meal preparation (which by the way took about an hour) I thought it was appropriate.

The Winner-is always part of the answer;
The Loser-is always part of the problem;
The Winner- always has a program;
The Loser- always has an excuse;
The Winner- says, "Let me do it for you;"
The Loser- says, "That's not my job;"
The Winner- sees an answer for every problem;
The Loser- sees a problem for every answer;
The Winner- sees a green near every sand trap;
The Loser- sees two or three sand traps near every green;
The Winner- says, "It may be difficult but it's possible;"
The Loser- says, "It may be possible but it's too difficult."
Be A Winner.

Kitchen helpers Thanksgiving morning should report by 7:30 a.m.  Meal deliverers and waiters and waitresses for the meal report by 10:30 a.m.

The meal will be served between 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.  It is free and there are no income guidelines although they will accept any cash donations, check donations or donations of non-perishable food items which are donated to the local food shelf.

Everyone is welcome.  I visited with people from Kenyon and Morristown today who told me they plan on attending the meal.

In the words of legendary NFL Coach Vince Lombardi, "The quality of a person's life is in direct proportion to their commitment to excellence, regardless of their chosen field of endeavor."
