In a voice message to Faribault School District parents, and in a note on the district website, Superintendent Todd Sesker announced that the school district grades Kindergarten through 12 will go to a full distance learning model beginning November 19. Along with the full distance learning model, there will also be no activities from November 19 through winter break, which is January 4th, 2021.

A note to families and students outlines the next couple of days leading up to the full distance learning plan going into effect.

In a letter published to the school district website, it states that "There will be no school Monday, Nov. 16 or Tuesday, Nov. 17, as we will use those as pivot days for staff to plan for the transition to distance learning. Next Wednesday, Nov. 18, will operate as it did under the previous hybrid model."

Superintendent Sesker is optimistic that when school resumes in January of 2021 students will either be back to an in-person learning model or will go back to the hybrid learning model.

In statistics shared in the letter to school district families, it states that there are "11 confirmed positive cases among Faribault Public Schools students and staff, and 40 confirmed cases since the start of the school year. There were 334 new cases in Rice County from Nov. 2 through Nov. 8. The latest preliminary Rice County two-week case rate per 10,000 residents is 77.39 and expected to rise in the coming days."

Faribault is just another school district to implement a full distance learning model following New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva, Tri-City United, and Northfield in our area.
