The Faribault Ice Arena had many mites players in attendance for a 9-1 win over Austin Saturday.  The future Falcons hopefuls showed off their skating and puck handling skills between periods.

The first goal scored by Faribault was by a guy who is not that far removed from being a mites player.  Eighth grader Jackson Kath scored 28 seconds into the game with assists to sophmore Oliver Linneman (7) and fellow eighth grader Thomas Kunze (4).

It was Kath's 4th goal of the season.

Six minutes into the game the Falcons doubled their lead with a junior Owen Nesburg (4) goal.  Assists by sophmore Logan Peroutka (3) and senior Jax Bokman (3).

Faribault scored again with just over a minute to go in the period when Linneman (8) connected following assists by Kunze (5) and senior Riley Hustvedt (2).

Senior goal Seamus O'Connor stopped all 7 shots on goal while Austin junior goalie Ethan Knox had 8 first period saves.

The onslaught was just beginning for the Falcons.  1:05 into the second period Peroutka (2) scored on another assist from Linneman (8).

At 4:22 sophmore Brody Redding talllied his 4th goal on a Bokman (4) assist to make it 5-0.

At that point the Packers decided to put in senior goal Soren Villafin.  It was 12:38 into the second period,

Seventeen seconds after Villafin entered the game Peroutka (3) scored following an assist from Nesburg (4).

Austin scored their lone goal at 8:14 when senior Roger Olson (1) scored on an assist from Toby Holtz (2).  The Packers have 11 total goals scored this season.

The Falcons would score two more second period goals.  Nesburg (5) scored a shorthanded goal on an assist from Kunze (6) at 10:06 and senior Tanner Yochum (2) had a unassisted goal at 15:27.

That meant running time for the third period.  Faribault's final goal came 8:54 into the period with running time the entire period.  I did not capture who scored the goal and the official score sheet was not provided following the game unfortunately.

The Falcons had 3 penalties, Austin 1 in the contest.

Our Cashwise Foods and Pharmacy Deliver of the Game award went to Falcons goalie O'connor for his work between the pipes.  He finished with 22 saves.

Faribault finished the game with 30 shots on goal, Austin 23.

The Malecha's Auto Body Faribault Crunch Time Players of the Game were Kunze with 4 points, Nesburg 3 points and Peroutka also had a 3 point night.

Before the game a moment of silence was observed in memory of Kay Duchene.  She was a member of the Ice Arena Board when it first started. A conference room in the Faribault Ice Arena is named in her honor.

I know it was one of the duties she enjoyed most while on the Faribault City Council.  Duchene died last week after battling cancer.

Faribault (3-5, 4-10) is scheduled to host John Marshall (2-1, 4-7) Tuesday but the Rockets game with Mayo Saturday was postponed.  The Rockets versus Northfield game last Thursday was also postponed.

Austin (0-6, 0-9) hosts Worthington (8-4) Tuesday.

Here are other boys hockey scores that were reported Saturday.
