The Faribault Fire Department says at 7:03 a.m. Saturday they were dispatched to a turkey barn fire at 24811 Cabot Avenue just south of Faribault.  Chief Dustin Dienst says, "The barn was fully engulfed upon arrival of fire crews."

In a News Release Chief Dienst says the Rice County Sheriff's Office and North Ambulance also responded to the call and assistance was provided by the Medford, Morristown, Nerstrand and Kenyon fire departments.  Chief Dienst says they helped with water supply and provided more manpower.  Firefighters were on the scene until 10:52 a.m.

The barn is a total loss and all the turkeys in the building lost their lives.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.  Chief Dienst says "The Faribault Fire Department will work closely with the State Fire Marshal's Office, the owners of the barn and private investigators to determine the cause."

In his news release Chief Dienst added, "Responders were presented with some unique challenges on this fire, their training and professionalism showed as damage was limited to the structure of origin and no one was injured."
