The Faribault Falcons hosted Owatonna tonight at Nomeland Gym and came away with a hard fought 4 set victory.  Junior Payton Evenstad had 20 kills while hitting at a .400 clip to lead the Falcons to the win.  Evenstad also collected 14 assists and 13 digs in the match.

Faribault won the first set 25-20 despite collecting 11 errors.  Owatonna captured the second set 25-19.  The Falcons won the next two sets 25-21, 25-14.  The team hitting percentage for Faribault was .232 for the match.

In addition to Evenstad our Faribault State Farm Insurance agents Faribault players of the match were junior Bennett Wolff with 7 blocks, 14 assists, 11 digs, 7 kills, 3 ace serves. Sophomore Olivia Bauer hit an efficient .391 with 10 kills, 7 digs, 2 ace serves.  Sophomore Megan Swanson joined Wolff at the net to assist on a few blocks and had one of her own to earn the other State Farm player of the match designation.

Coach JoAnna Lane appeared to find a couple more weapons to use in preparation for the playoffs in a couple weeks and next year.  There is not one senior on the Faribault volleyball team.  Freshman Addison Dietsch looks to be another athletic player at the net.  Junior Ellie Glende came in an served a couple of aces in the fourth set when the Falcons started sluggish trailing 5-0.

My unofficial statistics had senior Kaitlyn Madole lead Owatonna with 11 kills.  Junior 6'2 Jenna Gleason was efficient with just two errors and 7 kills.

The Huskies fell to 5-19 overall and 3-6 in Big Nine play.  Faribault is 12-12, 8-3 in the Big 9.

The Falcons host Zumbrota-Mazeppa Monday, close out their regular season Tuesday when Northfield visits Nomeland Gym.

Owatonna has Winona in the Huskies gym Thursday, hosts Faribault Bethlehem Academy Monday with the match on KDHL radio.  The Huskies close out their regular season at John Marshall next Tuesday.
